4-Tips for a Relaxed Family Session
1) Patience!
This is so important. I know you’re nervous your kid or kids will be too much and I’m telling you the chaos they bring is pure excitement!!
We’re documenting a snippet in time of all that is wonderful in your life, RIGHT NOW, and the personalities of your kids are that exactly!
I want the chaos and cheekiness and climbing and lollipops and all the kid goodness! You will too❤️
2) Love what YOU’re wearing!
Moms, we especially need to feel good about what we choose.
I say to stay true to who you are and wear jeans if you’re just not a dress kind of girl.
Or, get your make-up professionally done if that is truly what makes you happy and comfortable.
You know you, and that’s how you need to show up - feeling your best.
3) Bribes - Absolutely do them!
Ha! Kids have no idea how long 10 minutes or an hour is!
Bring along a clean bribe (chocolate melts, red candy stains, so, some crackers/pretzels tend to be a better offer) to help them stay interested in the session.
stickers and small craft items could work for slightly older children.
Don’t worry, I carry a backpack you can keep your bribes (and phones and keys) in!
4) Dads can make or break a session!
They have a lot on their plate, too, and sometimes they just don’t understand the importance of a session.
If Dad isn’t on-board with an outdoor session, see if he would be more comfortable in an in-home. Some men do prefer the simplicity of staying home and letting the photographer be the one driving around! In-Home sessions give everyone a chance to duck out and get a break before coming back into the session.
Prep him that his role in the session is to stay patient and tell Dad-jokes and give tickles.
IF you’re guy isn’t into it at all - then schedule a motherhood session and get those memories saved the way you want.
