Best bits of advice for your newborn session so you can be relaxed and enjoy your session.

In my lifestyle sessions, I do make portraits of just the baby, if the baby is ok with it. They’re the boss and if they want to be held the whole time, then that’s we’ll do!

I keep it relaxed by using the floor next to a window or you bed, the poses and wrapping are simple because I prefer to still see more of the baby.
Baby should wear simple clothing like a onesie or sleeper.
The more snug the fit, the better as something too large wrinkles and never sits right on their little body.

All family members should wear clothes that are comfortable while also being presentable.

It can be tricky having everyone in strong and different patterns, but that’s not to say it won’t work! If you’re confident in your styling, then go for it!
But, if you’re not, then it’s bet to try to avoid patterns on everyone.
I recommend starting with Mom’s outfit first, then, you can organize everyone else’s.
Try to avoid anyone in strong reds or neon colors as they cast a terrible color on your face.
Avoid clothes with words and logos. To create a timeless portrait, the clothes should not be a distraction from you.
At home, BAREFOOT IS BEST!
Solids and neutrals always give great results.

Usually, a newborn session is scheduled between 10am-2pm.

Those hours provide the best light and tend to work well with newborn sleep.

Toddler Tips

Keep snacks that aren’t too sticky or drippy available throughout the session.
It can be hard to bribe a toddler to “behave” through a whole hour or two, so, I think it’s nicer to have some snacks ready as needed for their participation during the session.
Breastfeeding Thoughts
If you are nursing, I lovingly urge you to have those portraits taken during the session.
They may remain private and not shared on my social media/website if you prefer!
May you be so lucky that your breastfeeding journey continues until baby is ready to wean, but you never know when it might end abruptly due to medical reasons and you will be glad you have the photos.
