Lifestyle In-Home Breastfeeding Session with Five Pence Photography

Gram is a lovely happy boy, except for the day of his session, ha! He was thrown off schedule and I was definitely unexpected. As with most of my sessions, and especially now with COVID, I let mom do all the soothing, so as not to become too much of the baby’s focus. This lends more intimacy to your session.

What To Wear

Neutral colors, soft and flows fabrics, really lend themselves to be the best choices for a breastfeeding session. They enhance the skin tones, and don’t detract from your connection. Loose dresses or kimonos are perfect examples of what Mom can wear.

What Should Baby Wear

For babies, keep it simple. A covered diaper and a simple swaddle work magic together. If the baby tends to get cold, a simple onesie or even sleeper will be good choices. Baby skin, feet, dimples, and folds are all such a gorgeous part of being a baby that I think it’s worth trying to document.

Setting The Mood

It can be very helpful to try to minimize distractions during your session. Have some music in the background playing, diffuse some of your favorite oils. Do all the things you and your baby have learned to like together since the start of your breastfeeding journey.

You know your baby best

We can work around his eating and napping schedule to make sure you have a fun session and get the photos you know you want. I do know that mornings and early afternoons are usually when babies are happier and the light is usually at its best. We will move closer to windows and pockets of light if we have to!

In-Home Sessions

In-Home doesn’t mean we have to stick to one room, or even the house. Weather dependent, we can photograph in your garden, or follow the light around your house. Babies, like all of us humans, like distractions and new places!

time is a thief

No matter where you are in your breastfeeding journey, please consider gifting yourself a breastfeeding session to document your days. Once they’re gone, they’re gone and trust me, as a mom of 3 bigger kids, you will want these to look back on.
