5 Tips for Planning a Newborn Session

Hey there! If you're getting ready to plan your newborn photoshoot and are feeling a little stressed. Don’t be!! Here are five tips for planning a newborn session to ensure they go as smoothly as possible.

1. Baby is Boss:

I do make portraits of just the baby, if the baby is ok with it. They’re the boss and if they want to be held the whole time, we’ll just do that then! There is no rush on having the session when they’re just born. I am different in that I like the baby to be a bit older, for mom to be feeling more calm, that’s the best time for the session.

2. Cozy Vibes for the Win:

Get the home ready for its close-up. Tidy up a bit, let the sunlight flood in, and create a chill atmosphere. A comfy home equals a happy baby equals stunning pictures. Quick tip for the tidy - throw all the stuff in a laundry basket and put basket in closet. That way nothing gets misplaced during the tidy up.

3. Tiny Outfits, Big Impact:

Well fitting onesies and sleepers are the best options. Clothes that are loose or too big can scrunch up on baby and it’s not always great in photos. If it’s warm enough, the baby can be in just a diaper. Also, keep bows little so it doesn’t end up covering an eye, If there's a family blanket with history, toss that in for some extra sentimental charm.

4. Messy Moments = Real Moments:

Babies are cute, but they're also little mess machines. Embrace it! Diaper leaks, milk spills – it's all part of the adorable chaos. Those real, unfiltered moments will give your photos an authentic touch. Plus, it makes for good stories later!

5. Group Hug for the Camera:

Don't forget the family pics! Gather everyone for a cozy family moment. Snuggle up, exchange some kisses, and let your camera capture the love filling the room. These shots are like the cherry on top of your newborn photo sundae.

Planning a newborn session doesn't have to be a source of stress; it can be a smooth and enjoyable experience. I hope these 5 tips for planning a newborn session helped calm the nerves and have you excited and all prepared for your next session!

Kind Words

Bethany was great to work with for our first family photo shoot! We booked a session in our home, and she dealt with us and our two big dogs seamlessly. She made us feel comfortable and relaxed. The images are beautiful! Highly recommend.” Hayley Wilson
