What to Expect During a Newborn Photoshoot?
I say this a lot, in different ways, but it’s so true - the best thing to expect from a photoshoot is, well, they’re not always easy! However, they are ALWAYS worth it!
Of all the creatures to photograph, a newborn is probably the least of which we have control over!
Chances are the baby isn’t even on a sleep schedule!

They might be having a difficult time learning to nurse. They might be awake the whole time.
In fact, you may have not been able to get the newborn session done until your baby is a little older!
All of this is perfect!
The best attitude to have during your session is one that is full of flexibility! Having these lifestyle sessions at home are meant to “keep it real, but make it pretty!”

If your baby is a little older, that’s ok! A lot of my newborn work is with older babies. They are a little bigger and more alert.
What if your baby doesn’t sleep during the session? I like this too, since we get to have a lot of wide-eyed baby photos.

If he does sleep, again, this is so easy! They look peaceful, and we can move through a lot of poses that way.
It’s always mom’s choice to get breastfeeding pictures taken while I’m there. I never share them unless I have an explicit “yes”.
Having a new baby is a lovely, hard, exhausting time and you’re trying to have a session at this time, and rightly so, because it’s so worth remembering these days!
I wish I had a session of one of my three. All I have is warped memories and a few sparse photos.
Be open to whatever the mood is of your baby that day. And I definitely think a celebration for a job well done should be had by Mom and Dad after I leave!
